Senior Dog Rescue & Forever Medical Coverage Program
There are a number of reasons why older dogs may need to be placed with pet rescuers like you, and Gray Paws Sanctuary receives quite a few of those requests. It breaks our hearts, but we just don’t have the space to take in every one. For one reason or another, some dogs just can’t stay with us long-term. That’s where our Rescue & Forever Medical Coverage Program comes in!
Instead of rescuing a puppy or younger dog, you have the opportunity to take in an older pup who needs a safe and loving home to live out their golden years! It’s incredibly rewarding to give senior dogs a place where they feel like family. Our program extends outside of just our own dogs to include the placement of older dogs throughout our whole community, ensuring that as many as possible get to live their best lives — for their entire lives!
Most of our senior dogs are rescued from private owners in crisis, or people unable or unwilling to care for their senior dogs. We also take in rescues from local shelters around the Greater Pittsburgh area, animal control, and other rescue groups. We want to do whatever we can to support those trying to keep all pups safe and healthy.
There are a few considerations to take into account if you’re looking to Forever Foster an older dog. Medical costs are one of the most common reasons people shy away from rescuing senior pups, which is why every one of the dogs we place is eligible for medical financial support. Gray Paws provides that financial security so the dog can be loved and cared for until the end of life without financial burden to the family who decides to be a Forever Foster family. We also work closely with families to make sure they have all the resources they need for their rescue to be as healthy and happy as possible. All of our work is done as a public service and there are no payments to anyone involved. There are also no fees associated with any of our rescues or medical coverages.
If you’re interested in providing a loving home to an older dog, all of our available dogs are posted on our Gray Paws Sanctuary Facebook page.
